MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE PUBLIC LIBRARY OF THE TOWNSHIP OF NEPTUNE

APRIL 8, 2009

 CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL

The meeting was called to order at 5:06pm by Luke Tirrell.  The following were in attendance: Mike Palermo – Luke Tirrell – Claudia Mooij – Teretha  Jones

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

A motion was made by Teretha Jones to accept the minutes of the February 11, 2009  meeting.  Mike Palermo seconded.  Motion carried.

TREASURER’S REPORT

The report was read by Mike Palermo.  A check for 10.99 for a lost ILL book needs to be  voided.   The book was returned to the library the day after the check was written.  Collections brought in a total of $368.24 for the month of March.   Motion to accept the report was made by Teretha Jones and seconded by Claudia Mooij.  Motion carried.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Personnel – no report

Budget – no report

Building – no report

Outreach – no report

Policies – Teretha distributed a draft copy of the Issuance and Use of Library Card Policy.  A discussion was held on the policy and also the idea of photo cards.  It was suggested holding off on the photo cards until we have used up the recently ordered ones. This will also give Marian a chance to get more information when she attends NJLA.   Changes were made to the draft copy and the final draft will be mailed out for approval at the next meeting. 

OLD BUSINESS

Fourty three people attended the Dr. Suess program.  Pictures will be on the Township website.

The  Women’s Auxiliary of the Ocean Grove  Camp Meeting Assoc. sent four guys over with a truck  to pick up the books leftover from our book sale last year. 

Marian informed the Board that the construction crew came in to work in the museum, (tearing down the inside wall, preparing for the glass wall construction, etc).  It is possible that we will not have a book sale this year, because with the construction ongoing we will not have a place to store books.  The carpet rep will be coming in next week with samples for the children’s dept.

The True Colors seminar, held on March 31, 2009 was attended by eight staff members and  staff from other libraries.  The seminar focused  on team building (personalities and understanding the people you work with).

NEW BUSINESS

A discussion was held on the Township Committee Goals and Objectives for 2009.  After the discussion a resolution was made.   Resolution # R6-09: to adopt the Neptune Public Library response to the Township Committee Goals and Objectives for 2009.   Motion was made by Mike Palermo and seconded by Teretha Jones.  Motion carried.  It was suggested that Marian and Luke attend the meeting on April 13^th, to formally present the library response. 

Marian would like to attend the National Library Legislative Day on May 11-12, 2009, in Washington DC.  She is on the Conference committee this year and is in charge of the technology.  The two day NJLA conference in Long Branch will be held April 27-29, 2009.  Marian would like to attend this also.  A motion was made by Teretha Jones to allow up to $900 to attend the National Library Legislative Day conference and the NJLA conference .  Mike Palermo seconded the motion.

Motion carried. 

ADJOURNMENT

After all business was concluded, the meeting was adjourned .  Motion was made by Teretha Jones and seconded by Mike Palermo.
