MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE PUBLIC LIBRARY OF THE TOWNSHIP OF NEPTUNE

CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL
The meeting was called to order by Luke Tirrell at 5:05pm. The following were in attendance: Luke Tirrell – Teretha Jones – Joe Krimko – Janet Van Rooy
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Joe Krimko made the motion to accept the minutes of the July 9, 2008 meeting. Janet Van Rooy seconded the motion. The motion carried.
John Bonney attended the meeting to speak about a new feature called the “Library’s Bestseller Club”.
The computer classes taught by John Bonney are very successful. Classes include Introduction to computers, Introduction to the Internet, Resume Writing, to name a few. The first fifty participants will receive a free flash drive. Additional classes will be added in the future.
TREASURER’S REPORT
The report was read by Marian Bauman.
----Check for $475: reimbursement to the Friends for dues and donations
A discussion was held on a company called American Listing Services. They have been using fraudulent business practices to bill the library $470 for on-line listing services. Marian has contacted the Better Business Bureau and they stated that the company is already under investigation. We are waiting for a letter from the Better Business Bureau as to our next step. A motion was made by Joe Krimko and seconded by Teretha Jones to accept the report and pay the bills.

OLD BUSINESS
Marian spoke with Bonnie Morris from the Township School Summer Reading Program. She apologized for the trouble we have been having concerning the reading lists and gave permission to give her phone number to anyone else who has a complaint. They are working on a plan for next year to alleviate this problem.
The book sale will be on Neptune Day, September 6th.
NEW BUSINESS
A discussion was held on the trustee sunshine fund. It was suggested that we roll this money into the staff sunshine fund. A motion was made by Joe Krimko,
That the balance of $35, from the trustee sunshine fund be rolled over into the staff sunshine fund. Seconded by Teretha Jones. Motion carried.
Resolution #R11-08: Hiring Annaleigha Ortega effective September 1, 2008, for a maximum of ten hours per week, at an hourly rate of $8.50. This position does not include benefits. Motion to accept was made by Joe Krimko and seconded by Teretha Jones. Motion carried.
Overdue fines have been five cents since the early nineties. A discussion was held on raising the fines to ten cents. A motion was made by Joe Krimko and seconded by Teretha Jones that effective September 1, 2008, fines will be raised to ten cents. Motion carried.
CORRESPONDENCE
Joe Krimko read a letter from Frances Mertz, thanking the library for such great services. The letter included a check for $100.
Professor Ruth Kane Fern, also wrote a letter expressing her thanks to the library for their services, especially the ILL Dept.
The library will be opening at 9:00 am beginning September 2nd, 2008.
