MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE PUBLIC LIBRARY
OF THE TOWNSHIP OF NEPTUNE
MARCH 14, 2007
CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL
Luke Tirrell called the meeting to order at 4::30. The following members were in attendance: Mike Palermo – Joe Krimko – Luke Tirrell – Laura Granelli – Sandra Fornino
CORRECTION TO JANUARY MINUTES: Mike Palermo was elected as treasurer, nominated by Sandra Fornino.
A motion was made by Mike Palermo to approve the minutes of the January meeting, with corrections. Seconded by Laura Granelli. The February meeting was cancelled due to inclement weather.
MEET THE STAFF
The staff “star of the month” was Kathy Nicholas. Kathy does programs each month at the Senior Center with Marian.
TREASURER’S REPORT
Mike Palermo read the treasurer’s report for February and March.
Marian has applied for a $3500 grant from the State Library for a computer security audit and a free computer. Marian stated that is a non-competitive grant and fully expects us to receive it.
Motion to accept the report and pay the bills was made by Mike Palermo and seconded by Joe Krimko. Motion passed.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Sandra Fornino submitted a policy committee report. Motion was made by Sandra Fornino to accept the policy on “Theft of Library Materials”. Seconded by Mike Palermo. Motion passed.
Motion was made by Joe Krimko to accept the policy on “Staff Privileges”. Seconded by Mike Palermo. Motion passed.
The Strategic Plan Update was presented to the Board for perusal.
NEW BUSINESS
Resolution #R5-07: To accept the resignation of Alexis Anderson with regrets, effective January 11, 2007. Motion to accept made by Mike Palermo and seconded by Joe Krimko. Motion passed.
Resolution #R6-07: To hire Jackie Murphy, effective March 16, 2007, in a part-time capacity for up to 24 hours per week at an hourly rate of $13.72. Motion to accept made by Mike Palermo and seconded by Joe Krimko. Motion passed.
A discussion was held on providing services to wheelchair patrons from out of town. Asbury Park Library has a wheelchair bound patron who does not have access to their second floor because they have no elevator. After the discussion, it was decided that we will accommodate their wheelchair bound patrons for free, if in return any Neptune patron can have free microfiche service.
There will be a MidAtlantic Library Futures Conference in Atlantic City that Marian needs to attend. Motion was made by Mike Palermo and seconded by Sandra Fornino to approve the expenditure of $650 for the two days. Motion passed.
Motion to adjourn was made by Joe Krimko and seconded by Mike Palermo. Motion passed.
