MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE PUBLIC LIBRARY OF THE TOWNSHIP OF NEPTUNE
MAY 13, 2009
CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL
The meeting was called to order at 5:10 pm by Luke Tirrell. The following were in attendance:
Luke Tirrell – Kevin McMillan – Joe Krimko – Claudia Mooij – Teretha Jones
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
A motion was made by Joe Krimko to accept the minutes of the April 8, 2009 meeting. Claudia Mooij seconded the motion. Motion carried.
TREASURER’S REPORT
The report was read by Marian Bauman.
---check to Velma Ogogohmeh for $43 for lost material that was returned.
---check to Lin Sui for $29.99 for lost material that was returned.
Joe Krimko made the motion to accept the report and pay the bills. Kevin McMillan seconded the motion. Motion carried.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Personnel - No report
Budget – No report
Building – No report
Outreach – No report
Policies - The Issuance and Use of Library Cards Policy was discussed in a meeting May 13th. Claudia and Marian were present in person and Teretha was consulted by phone. Staff members were also called in to share their thoughts on revising the policy. The meeting generated a draft document, which was presented at the Board meeting. The consensus among the Board was that the policy is still not ready , so the committee will continue to work on it and present another draft to the Board at our June meeting.
OLD BUSINESS
The new air conditioning units are on the roof. The system is back up. There is a leak in the upstairs staff work room, which was reported and is being fixed. Some programs had to be cancelled because of the heat. This will be noticed on the statistic report.
Marian spoke on the highlights of the NJLA Conference.
NEW BUSINESS
John Bonney attended a program presented by the NJ State Library were as the library can partnership with Library for the Blind and Handicapped. The staff will be trained by the State Library to help download books and magazines in Braille.
Brochures for new homeowners going out by mail through the tax office will now include library information.
We now have a value calculator on our web page.
A discussion was held on reciprocal borrowing from Monmouth County library. The consensus was to at least attend a meeting to learn more about it and how it works.
Exploring a change in the holiday structure for the library employees was was discussed. The Board was asked to think about this and come to the next meeting with ideas.
ADJOURNMENT
After all business was concluded, the meeting was adjourned at 5:55 pm. Motion to adjourn was made by Joe Krimo and seconded by Teretha Jones. Motion carried.
