MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE PUBLIC

LIBRARY OF THE TOWNSHIP OF NEPTUNE

OCTOBER 11, 2006

CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL

• Luke Tirrell called the meeting to order at 4:30 pm.  The following members were in attendance: Sandra Fornino – Luke Tirrell – Teretha Jones – Janice Sweeney – Laura Granelli           

       Absent: Joe Krimko – Mike Palermo

MEET THE STAFF

• The staff “Star of the Month” was John Bonney.  John is currently attending Texas Women’s University through a co-ed online program to receive his master’s degree in Library and Information Science.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

• Motion to approve the minutes of the September 13^th meeting was made by Sandra Fornino and seconded by Teretha Jones.  Motion passed.

• Teretha Jones made the motion to change the November 15^th Board meeting to November 8^th so that Marian can attend the League of Municipalities conference. Janice Sweeney seconded the motion.  Motion passed.

• Teretha Jones made the motion for the library to open at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, November 8^th for a staff in-service training.   Sandra Fornino seconded the motion.  Motion passed.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

• Resolution #16-06: Hiring Kay Worrell effective November 1, 2006 in a full time capacity at $23,607 with no benefits. Motion made by Teretha Jones and seconded by Laura Granelli.  Motion passed.

• Resolution #17-06: Accept the retirement of Susan Waters effective December 31,  2006. Motion made by Teretha Jones and seconded by Laura Granelli. Motion passed.

• Resolution #18-06: Accept the retirement of Patricia Robinson effective November 29, 2006, pending notification from the Public Employees Retirement System as to the date.  Motion made by Janice Sweeney and seconded by Teretha Jones.  Motion passed.

TREASURER’S REPORT

• Marian explained to the Board that the quarterly check last month was over by $1297.  We have received the State-Aid check in the amount of $34,409.  Book Evaluation quarterly check for $1500 has been received.

OLD BUSINESS

• The by-laws were reviewed.  Another reading will be held next month. 

• Discussion was held on library personnel policies. Teretha distributed drafts from the NJ Department of Labor. This discussion will continue at the next meeting.

NEW BUSINESS

• None

EXECUTIVE SESSION

• Teretha Jones made the motion to close for executive session.  Janice Sweeney seconded the motion.  Motion passed.
