SEPTEMBER 15, 2004
Jill Osis called the meeting to order.
The following members were present: Jill Osis – Peggy Auerbacher – Joe Krimko Kathy Golub – Teretha Jones – Luke Tirrell - Angela Ricciuti
Kathy Golub made the motion to accept the minutes of the August meeting. Seconded by Luke Tirrell. Motion passed.
Kathy Golub read the treasurer’s report. Motion to accept the report and pay the bills was made by Joe Krimko and seconded by Luke Tirrell. Motion passed.
A discussion was held on the part time employee status and the current changes in the schedule. After the discussion, resolution #10-04, promoting Jennifer Gerics to part-time librarian assistant for less than 25 hours per week at a rate of $9.00 per hour with no additional employee benefits was made by Teretha Jones and seconded by Joe Krimko. Resolution passed.
Marian gave an update on our amnesty program which ended today. The story was featured on Channel 12 News and the Asbury Park Press. A discussion was held on the replacement value of books that are out of print or very old. A policy will be presented at the next meeting.
More research needs to be done before getting the carpets clean. It was stated that because of the mold in the tiles upstairs, wetting the carpets will only make a bad situation worse. A dry chemical cleaning was recommended.
Discussion was held on photocopier options. If purchased or leased, the new copier will be networked for the staff and go in the workroom downstairs. The copier presently in the workroom, will go on the floor for patron use. Motion to purchase the Sharp AR-M350NP10 at the purchase price of $7000.00 was made by Teretha Jones and seconded by Angela Ricciuti.
The Internet Access Policy was reviewed and discussed. Motion to accept the policy with recommended changes was made by Peggy Auerbacher and seconded by Kathy Golub.
A discussion was held on the report from the Strategic Planning Committee. More emphasis needs to be geared toward the teens and tweens age group. Some suggestions were to send the new arrivals list for teens and tweens to the schools, arts and crafts programs and also a book club for that age group. Neptune and the surrounding cities have a large undercounted Hispanic population. It was suggested that we contact the Hispanic Resource Center for a Spanish speaking teen to volunteer at the library. The next step to the plan is for the staff to figure out what the goals are and the objectives to meet the goals.
After a brief discussion on the roof situation, it was decided that a letter be written, addressed to the Mayor and copied to the Administrator, Mr. Bascom and Township Committee Members expressing the seriousness of this situation, and stating that several members of the Library Board will be attending the workshop on September 27th.
